Tour Rating 5.0
Description
The Peacemakers Museum explores how the North of Ireland moved from decades of violent conflict to the peace we all enjoy and maintain today. Located in the famous Bogside area of Derry in the North of Ireland. The small working class area witnessed some of the key events of the conflict including the Battle of the Bogside and Bloody Sunday. The museum explores the period from August 1972 to May 2007 to explain how the conflict evolved into the peace process and the impact of both on the local area. The museum uses artefacts, oral history, archive footage, interactive features and unique displays to explain how the Agreement was reached, its implementation and its potential implications for the future of the island.

Hidden Gem - new museum in the heart of Bogside

Totally recommend a visit to this museum. So very, very well done and it captures all the events leaving you well informed from how the troubles developed to the peace process. It also shows the woman’s viewpoint and part in protests. It has been housed in the working class area that witnessed a lot of the conflict and of course, Bloody Sunday. I spent nearly two hours there and probably could have spent longer had I not had another place to be. Staff were really helpful, friendly and accommodating too. The gift shop is reasonably priced too.

I rang ahead to ensure my timing was good. I was ensured I wouldn’t be rushed. I had been warned that there was a lot of information in the Peace Museum and I had just been to the Free Derry Museum so I needed to a sandwich. I said this and was directed to the adjacent cafe where I had the most fantastic festive toasted sandwich. The museum itself had a lot of text for detailed reading but also had a series of videos to watch: More accessible than the text and featuring interviewees with lived experience of events. Of course I wanted to watch and read, so 2.5 hours later and much better educated, I left very satisfied. Thank you.
Great facilities
