We loved seeing the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. Having a knowledgeable and experienced tour guide like Giovanni (John) is sooo important to begin to understand and appreciate what we were seeing. (As a senior, I found I did not need a walking stick like I did at the Acropolis in Greece.)

Worthwhile Vatican Tour

First of all it is not worth lining up for tickets. It is too crowded even in late October. So we decided to book at the last minute and pay what we had to so it made sense to book a tour. Thankfully, our guide, Marco, spoke English really well without a heavy accent so he was very easy to understand. We went to the museum and the Sistine Chapel before being dropped at the Basilica which was ample.You can't spend much time in the Sistine Chapel and you aren't allowed to take photos so it's more of a "tick the box" moment. I imagine it would be amazing without the crowds but you won't get that experience.

The Vatican tour was incredible. Giovanni had an incredible passion for the history and made it very interesting. He placed us directly in the center of the Sistine Chapel. 100% would recommend
